1. Introduction
The Department of Resource and Environmental Information System was originally established in 1994 under the name of Land Information. In 2003, the department merged with the Geodesy - Mapping Unit and renamed it the Land Administration Department. In 2006, the department changed its name to Department of Geodesy, Cartography and Geographic Information. From 2013 to present the department's name has been Land Information System.
2. Functions and Missions
- Training: Participating in graduate and undergraduate programs in Land Management, Environment, and Soil Sciences with a total of 14 subjects.
- Scientific research and transfer of science and technology: The department conducts research projects at all levels on building land database, building land information system, application of Remote Sensing (RS) and Geographic Information System (GIS) in mapping, land use planning and management of natural resources. The department also leads many projects on transferring science and technology in the field of land management to production in the localities in the country.

5. Scientific research activities
Main research directions
+ Establishment of cadastral databases for land registration, issuance of land use right certificates and completion of cadastral documents
+ Establishment of land price databases, land use planning databases, land statistics and inventory databases.
+ Establishment of land assessment database, terrain database; soil erosion assessment database for soil erosion control and land conversion.
+ Application of Famis, Cesmap, TMV.Map, AutoCAD Map softwares in the establishment of cadastral maps and cadastral measurement for land use right certificate issuance.
+ Application of Remote Sensing (RS) and GIS in the establishment of current land use status maps, maps of land use in coastal areas.
+ Application of RS and GIS in the assessment of land use changes, urbanization processes, and coastal shoreline fluctuations. Application of RS and GIS in the assessment of impacts of climate change on land use.
+ Application of GIS in land unit mapping for the assessment of land potential and land use planning.
+ Application of GIS in spatial analysis, establishment of digital elevation (DEM), establishment of specialized maps for land use planning.
+ Application of GIS and Spatial Interpolation in the establishment of soil maps, and maps of heavy metal contamination in soil and water.
