INTRODUCTION
The Department was established in 1956 with the name “Department of Cultivation and Meteorology” under the Faculty of Cultivation, Hanoi University of Agriculture. In 2008, the Department was renamed “Department of Agroecology” under the Faculty of Natural Resources and Environment (FONRE). In 2013, the Ministry of Education and Training implemented a pilot project “autonomous university” at VNUA and FONRE was divided into the Faculty of Land Management (FLM) and the Faculty of Environment (FOE). The Department of Agroecology is one of the five departments under the Faculty of Environment. The pilot project ended in May 2021. Since then FLM and FOE have been reunited to become FONRE again.
The Department of Agroecology is responsible for training undergraduate and graduate students both inside and outside of FONRE. Every year, the Department also implements a number of research activities focusing on four main areas: (1) management of natural resources; (2) ecology and sustainable agricultural development; (3) climate change; and (4) applications of GIS/RS and modelling in natural resources and environmental management.
