Following the successful closing seminar of the LIRLAP project held at the Vietnam National University of Agriculture (VNUA), the Vietnamese delegation, led by Assoc.Prof.Dr. Tran Trong Phuong - Dean of the Faculty of Natural Resources and Environment and Project Lead for LIRLAP Vietnam, along with Dr. Ngo Thanh Son, attended the concluding workshop at Thammasat University in Bangkok, Thailand (21/03/2025) and University of Diliman in Manila, Philippines (24/03/2025).
In Bangkok, the workshop, titled "Disaster Risk Management and Land Use Planning: A case study of informal settlements in disaster-prone areas in the Philippines, Thailand, and Vietnam," attracted a wide range of international and local experts.
Assoc. Prof. Dr. Tran Trong Phuong presented the research activities of the LIRLAP project in Vietnam, highlighting specific accomplishments and outlining strategic directions for the Faculty of Natural Resources and Environment in urban spatial planning and disaster risk management in the coming years. The presentations by the Vietnamese delegation received positive feedback from international experts, opening doors for expanded research cooperation and academic exchange in the future.

Dr. Juan Du (TU Dortmund University), Bethany Liss (LMU Munich), and Hannes Lauer (Stuttgart University) presented insights on urban upgrading and resetlement in the context of disaster risk. Prof. Mathias Kaiser from TU Dortmund University shared urban planning experiences from Manila and Hanoi, focusing on strategic lessons and practical applications for urban development and infrastructure.

At the University of Diliman workshop, Philippines, the Vietnamese delegation made significant contributions through presentations and participation in discussions. Prof. Matthias Garschagen (LMU Munich) provided an overview of the LIRLAP project, emphasizing the journey of research and development. Dr. Olabisi Obaitor discussed risk trends and the development of informal settlements in Manila, Bangkok, and Hanoi.

Another important presentation was by Prof. David Leonides Yap and Prof. Carmeli Marie Chaves from the Philippines, who discussed methods for building resilience and climate adaptation, based on the LIRLAP research outcomes. The workshop also emphasized the importance of online training and the joint PhD programs presented by Dr. Dina C. Magnaye and Dr. Wolfgang Scholz, which contributed to enhancing research capacity and practical application.
